Beware Fake Video Conferencing Websites!

Beware Fake Video Conferencing Websites!

Fraudsters are creating fake websites that look like popular video conferencing platforms like Google Meet, Skype, and Zoom. These sites aim to trick you into downloading malware that can steal your personal information.

Here’s how the scam works:

  • The fake websites look almost identical to the real ones, often using similar addresses or names with typos.
  • They offer downloads for Android, iOS, and Windows, but clicking these buttons triggers malware downloads.
  • The malware can steal your passwords, banking information, and other sensitive data.

How to stay safe:

  • Always double-check the website address before downloading anything.
  • Do not download any file from people that you do not know.
  • Download apps only from official app stores (Google Play, Apple App Store) or verified publisher websites.
  • Be cautious of unexpected download prompts, especially from unfamiliar websites .
  • If you suspect you’ve downloaded malware, run a scan with your antivirus software immediately.
  • Better yet use your antivirus program to scan every single file you download before you download it. I use Virustotal because I can copy the link and not download it but there are many places to do this. They are personal choices.

Remember: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Stay vigilant and protect your devices!
